Keeping Fit While Working A Desk
Lots of jobs demand desk time. It’s the technology of the time. Here are some tips for staying fit even if you have to be at a desk all day.
1) The most important part of staying fit in a desk job is to have the proper chair. Having an aching back from a poorly made seat makes it a little more difficult to get motivated.
2) Stand up and stretch at least once every half hour. While you’re doing your tasks, you can even walk in place for a few minutes.
3) Stretch your arms and wrists during the day. Don’t get so into what you’re doing that you don’t notice the kinks starting in your wrists and shoulders. Work those out as you go.
4) If you have to go to the copy room or the mail room, take the longest route possible. That can be difficult in a small office environment but the more you move, the better you’ll feel.
5) Talking to a customer on the phone can be an opportunity to walk around the office. Get one of those telephone headsets if possible to make this easier.
6) Take a walk around the shopping mall during your lunch hour. If you don’t have a mall, try the parking garage or simply make a circuit of your office building.
The one thing to remember in order to stay fit while working a desk job is to keep moving. Make a conscious effort to keep your limbs moving and burn those calories before they land on your hips!
Keeping fit while working a desk doesn’t take the place of regular exercise. You still need to move at least 30 minutes a day. You’ll feel good and it will keep your energy level high.
